I have been doing consulting for the past 5 years because I have been basically forced to. I keep getting the same answer for jobs I apply to: %26quot;You Interviewed Well, But We Feel Your Too Overqualified%26quot;
I have just moved to the east coast to assist with a family situation, and my spirit is about broken, I am tired of hearing that answer. I don%26#039;t have a college education but have many years of experience in the industry. Yet I have a hard time getting a 9-5 job in the industry due to a lack of a degree. And I can%26#039;t get jobs outside of the industry due to my many years of experience in my particular field.
My field too is extremely competitive, and there is a high rate of unemployment for people in my profession.
HOW THE HELL DO I GET A JOB!?? Seriously, 8 years of industry experience is hindering me finding a job just about everywhere!

My brother is in the same situation, and he%26#039;s going back to school so he can get his sheepskin. Seems completely unfair that he (and you) have to have a stupid piece of paper to get ahead, especially when you consider the fact that he (and you, in all probability) know more than these kids that the universities are spitting out with degrees that really aren%26#039;t even worth the paper they%26#039;re printed on, but in the higher echelons there is so much prejudice against people who don%26#039;t have a degree. Sad, but true.

If you are really tired of it, have you considered going to school for a different career? Keep working at what you are doing to pay the bills, and in the meantime, either on-line or in the evening, take classes in a different field. I gave up my whole life to go back to school a little over 4 years ago. I always wanted to be a biologist, and I finally did it. It is hard but soooo worth it.
Good luck.|||I don%26#039;t think they would tell you you were overqualified if they wanted you to have a degree. Chances are, you are applying for jobs which are too entry-level for your skills and they don%26#039;t want to pay you what they know you%26#039;d want. Or if you%26#039;ve been telling them how much you expect, that is too much. I%26#039;m not sure getting a degree would help, unless that would mean you would apply for higher-up positions that you aren%26#039;t qualified for now.
Chances are when they tell you you are overqualified they mean they don%26#039;t want to afford you. Or maybe they just don%26#039;t like you and they are telling you that to get you to go away. I don%26#039;t know, but it takes a long time to find a job.
