Should not Teachers, Nurses and the Police be awarded pay incease equal/greater than the rate of inf

Public Sector workers should be at the forefront of government fiscal policy. If savings are to be made the first place to look is at non essential expenditure: Benefits (charity). Rather than cutting the wages of productive citizens, it would appear more prudent/expedient to award them wage increases commensurate to their place in society. If savings for the greater good must be made let us begin by reducing payments to that segment of society not contributing to the greater good of the nation. Housing benefit, unemployment benefit, and disability benefits are not in all actuality benefits but charity! This charity is at present perpetuating the growth of the underclass at the cost of those of us that are contributing to the growth and economic prosperity of the nation. Child Benefit should also be cut as it too is a form of charity derived from %26quot;the workers%26quot; through taxation. Unfortunately, no government will now be able to enact such proposals for the underclass would revolt

yes, plus about 25% raise to bring them up to a more decent wage to start with

No they should not. They are people and most are in the profession for money or because they can%26#039;t do anything else. They are no better than anyone else. Nurses do exactly what profit happy hospitals tell them to do and that includes being party to euthanasia. Some teachers can%26#039;t stand kids especially %26#039;dumb%26#039; kids. Many policeman are just bullies with too much testosterone.|||What companies are cutting the wages of productive citizens? In my experience, companies increase the wages of productive citizens, or else those productive citizens go and find work somewhere else that pays better.

Any attempts to take away the programs that the lower class uses (and occasionally abuses) is going to be met with allegations that you don%26#039;t care about people, or you hate the lower class from the left. You can%26#039;t do it, they%26#039;ve got your hands tied.|||The three professions that you mention are actually among the highest paid professions. Within most communities across the country, you will find that people from those three jobs professions often make more than the majority of their community residents. Not to mention that unlike cops and nurses who work long hours, teachers work less hours per day and less days per year (by far) than the average American. All three are important and respectable professions that I commend people for entering.|||It%26#039;s is always, whatever the market will bear. If government employee%26#039;s wages and benefits outstrip the public sector, you will have an imbalance. It%26#039;s not enough to simply look at wages. Most government%26#039;s include an insanely %26quot;rich%26quot; retirement and health benefits that the public sector cannot, and does not provide.|||Unions are the ones interfering with that. Employers should be free to reward outstanding workers accordingly, but unions push to protect jobs FOR EVERYBODY, so that when one good teacher gets a pay increase, EVERY other teacher gets a similar pay increase whether or not they have taught their kids to read and do math or not. As with any job, there are bad apples in the mix. In private industries and employers that are not unionized, employers can fire the bad apples and use monies to hire and reward their most productive employees and improve education, healthcare administration, and police if they were not so heavily unionized. All three of these services could benefit from the powers of creative destruction to improve the efficiency and cost of these services.

But unions are in the way. As a result, improvements in education, healthcare, and police are very slow as these employers are not able to enforce changes in their structures that improve efficiency. Because union approval is needed for every change and expensive talks and strikes occur that cost these organizations money, pay increases for even the best performers are incremental as the failure to free these industries from traditional union control continues to sap public money from rewarding performance based on merit.|||I think if the governing party tightened up on real laws and punishment also drugs drinking n smoking etc then there would not be the need to spend so much in the first place and everyone could enjoy things in moderation rather than 24/7 binges that occure at the moment. And also why is the NHS not buying more generic drugs from say india buying from those who are crying out for money just to buy a loaf of bread.

As for benifits ie housing job seekers etc thats the biggest con to this country as a collative effort although, I recieve benifits at the moment due to the fact government sat by and watched us loose our home that we owned but sold to defend our son in a criminal case that realy we should not have fought naturaly our son was found not guilty but my point is why are you working guys paying me benifit when we had it all to begin with, it is a total wast of your monies considering we were self supporting. If government had acted in the first place we would not be claiming nor living miles from our birth place etc...... this UK place stinks of mafia number crunching and lack of balls to deal decent cards to everyone its a scandle....................................|||how about nurses get paid equal amount to police/teachers?

that would be a start

training to be a nurse-3 yrs

teaching-1 year after any poxy degree

police-6 weeks

MESSAGE TO ANDY C-IVE GOT 12 COPPERS IN MY FAMILY IT IS 6 WKS HOW MANY U GOT?|||NO! Its all a matter of personal choice. If anyone thinks they are worth more pay then go and get the job that pays it. There must not be a divide between so called Public Servants and the rest of society.

I served an apprenticeship but am looked down on by some as I only have a job where they have a career. Whatever we do we do for money we are all worth our pay but we must be equals in society.|||My goodness!! Someone whose mind works like mine. Did you know that there are about 3 million people between the ages of 16 and 60 who are %26quot;economically inactive,%26quot; another name for %26quot;skivers.%26quot; We must admit that some people are genuinely unable to work because of real illnesses and these should be well supported by the state (ie. us, the taxpayers) but it seems to me so easy to claim to be %26quot;stressed%26quot; or to %26quot;have a bad back%26quot; - claims which it is almost impossible to disprove. Did you know that something like 50% of the %26quot;working%26quot; population of areas of South Wales are on incapacity benefit? Then we have 150 000 families with only one resident parent, this usually being a single mother who drains the state (us) of child benefits, job-seekers allowance(altho%26#039; most of %26#039;em aren%26#039;t seeking jobs), housing benefits, free dinners for children, free childcare, etc, etc. Our problem, as a nation, is that we have allowed, no encouraged, an %26quot;underclass%26quot; to develop of workshy layabouts who have never worked, who hang around producing more children to follow in their idle footsteps. On top of this lot the state (us) has to foot the bill for thousands of people engaged in non-jobs such as ethnicity outreach workers, equality monitors, refuse and recycling advisors, etc. all non-productive and a drain on the nation%26#039;s resources. We are told by a Government Department that of the (around) 2 million jobs they have created about 82% have been taken by immigrants and yet we still have all those economically inactive to which I referred earlier.

Get all these people into employment and two things happen: firstly, the amount spent on benefits is reduced and, secondly, the income to the state (us) from extra income tax and national insurance payments goes up, thus freeing money to be able to pay the police their fair pay rise.

I could go on on this topic for hours. But this is enough!!|||Haz, Haz, Haz.....6 weeks training to become a police officer? Some how i dont think so. Maybe you have been watching one too many episodes of Police Academy. I dont know what nursing staff and teachers are getting in relation to the pay raise due to inflation, but the police service has been given a 2.5% increase. How can the government get away with that?????????The current rate of inflation is much higher, yet police officers are being given a fracion of that. pressumably because they know police cant strike. Other workers such as British Energy workers are getting almost 5%. Regardless of current wages for these professionals all should receive the current inflation rate increase. Unfortunatley the police, nhs and teachers are always made scapegoats for the state of the nation, yet for all the %26#039;haters%26#039;, they are the first people they will call in an emergency!
