COLUMBIA, S.C. 鈥?John Edwards promises to stand up for American workers in a television ad to begin airing Wednesday in his native South Carolina, the first TV advertising for any of the Democratic presidential candidates.

The ad opens with Edwards walking through the overgrown parking lot of the Seneca textile mill where his father worked.

%26quot;Now it%26#039;s closed, the jobs are gone. For too many, it%26#039;s just about profit and greed. They%26#039;re wrong,%26quot; Edwards says in the 30-second spot that is to air statewide. %26quot;It%26#039;s about the dignity of a job and doing what%26#039;s right for America%26#039;s workers.%26quot;

Edwards also says the country doesn%26#039;t need another president %26quot;that puts wealth above work.%26quot;

%26quot;So, if you%26#039;re ready to stand with me for American jobs and America%26#039;s workers, your time is now,%26quot; says Edwards, who represented North Carolina in the Senate.

Edwards was born in Seneca in South Carolina%26#039;s northwestern corner, and his presidential campaigns in 2004 and now have emphasized that he is the son of a mill worker who through hard work managed to become a successful and wealthy lawyer and politician.

He is the first Democratic presidential candidate to run television ads in South Carolina, where unemployment rates are chronically above the national average.

New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama have run radio ads.

Edwards won South Carolina%26#039;s Democratic primary in 2004, but a recent poll shows him trailing Clinton and Obama.

In Iowa, meanwhile, Edwards was to begin airing advertisements Tuesday in Iowa focusing on his call to end health benefits for top politicians who don%26#039;t approve a universal health care plan within six months of his taking office.

%26quot;When I%26#039;m president I%26#039;m going to say to members of Congress and members of my administration, including my Cabinet: I%26#039;m glad that you have health care coverage and your family has health care coverage,%26quot; Edwards says in the new spot airing in Iowa. %26quot;But if you don%26#039;t pass universal health care by July of 2009 _ in six months _ I%26#039;m going to use my power as president to take your health care away from you.%26quot;

Im feelling that! I heard about the same thing - John Edwards vows to pull health care from congress and other muckety mucks if UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE is not passed within six months of his election to the Presidency.....you go boy!! I might have to change my vote from Hillary to John....

Kaytie and without health coverage....

EDWARDS 2008! GIVE %26#039;EM HELL JOHN!|||If you vote and support for socialized medicine You%26#039;re a fool.|||Yes!! Lets all have mandatory government checkups, Mandatory government vaccines. Mandatory government regulated diets, Mandatory government exercise routines, and Mandatory government prescription meds.

Who cares about civil liberties? Edwards%26#039; Health Care enforces Mandatory procedures for all citizens. The government knows what is best for us. We can%26#039;t take care of ourselves. Prescription meds have no known side-effects. Forget about alternative treatments. The government knows what works and what doesn%26#039;t. They are only looking out for our best interest.|||Americans WANT universal health care, which is why it%26#039;s such a big issue in this campaign (and previous ones). I%26#039;m glad Edwards doesn%26#039;t say %26#039;free%26#039; health care because we all know it%26#039;s not -free-, we%26#039;re just arguing about how to pay for it.

I like the idea of Edwards saying if Congress doesn%26#039;t get on the ball he will take -their- health care away (and Congress -does- get free health care). The idea is a good one because it puts the ball in their court. He%26#039;s saying %26#039;I want to implement universal health care, and if I can%26#039;t it will be Congress%26#039;s fault.%26#039;

But you have to consider that a president can%26#039;t take away a benefit from Congress all by himself. And I don%26#039;t see Congress voting to give up their own health care, do you?

So Edwards is making a promise he knows he can%26#039;t keep. And even though I like the goal, I have had enough of presidential candidates doing that, going back to Reagan%26#039;s promise to balance the budget -and- give big tax cuts, and to pass a constitutional amendment, no less, to ban abortion.

Also, now I hope I don%26#039;t sound too cynical, but all the universal health care proposals I%26#039;ve heard from politicians, including GHW Bush, Bill Clinton, and now Hillary Clinton, have the same basis, the have the government buying health insurance for -some- uninsured people from the existing insurance corporations, at their going rate. And this isn%26#039;t what most Americans want. The health insurance industry is one of the biggest campaign contributors, I think they are Hillary%26#039;s -biggest- contributor. So any proposal they make only shores up the existing system, which is riddled with bureaucratic inefficiency, waste and fraud. I haven%26#039;t read about Edwards%26#039; proposal but I wouldn%26#039;t be surprised if it was the same.|||It doesn%26#039;t make sense. He seems to understand the real problem when he says that the president %26quot;that puts wealth above work%26quot; is wrong.

But at the end, he says %26quot;But if you don%26#039;t pass universal health care by July of 2009 _ in six months _ I%26#039;m going to use my power as president to take your health care away from you.%26quot;

He%26#039;s just another socialist trying to make the impossible compulsory by law.

Then try to make ends meet by twisting the value of the money.

Then try to control inflation by regulating markets.

Then try to adjust unemployment by giving health care and unemployment support.

And then do all over again...|||well at least he got his thoughts from the one who needs to win.....HILARY CLINTON...........

It was the government. Although Germany is a free country, some of their systems are not that similiar to ours. The government controls the economy more than our govt here. Not only that, Germany is part of a larger economic unit called the European Union. They use the euro as currency

Wal-Mart had tough competition in germany, mostly discounters like Aldi and Lidl who had lower prices than Walmart.German consumers tend to be very price-conscious.

How to begin the healing from death, divorce and depression?

lost my dad (my hero) in 97, had alcoholic husband left in 04 divorced 06. daighters 20 %26amp; 18 are with him to complete school where they have always gone to school, was so depressed before leaving him was ready to commit suicide. Whole family turned against me because I moved to an area with more jobs. The area I was in had very high unemployment rates and none of family would help. Ex called me fat, ugly, and stupid for years. I understand that was the acohol talking, but self-esteem was so wore down from it. Daughter called me b* slapped her and he threatened to beat the h* out of me just a couple weeks before I left. I miss my girls, oldest talks to me about every 2 weeks and comes to visit about 2X a year. Youngest refuses to have anything to do with me. not to mention, I still cry over my dad even after 10 years. How do I start to heal? NO insurance and workin for minimum wage $5.25 per hour. just go to work and go home no $$ for anything else. I can%26#039;t go see a counselor,.....

I think its worth a look-see. Won%26#039;t do no harm.

Cheers!!

http://relationship-doctor.blogspot.com|||Good advice from both, I would try to log onto a website that was suggested by schwinn, one of the ladies on yahoo answers, http://www.marriagebuilders.com/ it might help, as i believe you would need all the help you can get, so your current marriage is in good health. Good luck|||I do reccmend councling. There are locations for counsling that go by your income. Either call your local Department of Family and social Services or even call a therapist and ask for information / contact numbers to locations that provide therapy based on your income. There are good therapist and there are bad therapist. some actually listen and help you express your feelsing and help you understand why you feel the way you do and help direct you in making some positve changes; then there are therapist that just sit there and look at you funny then at the end of your seesion that either tell you to came back and let them know how you are doing or even perhaps prescribe medications. Not to say medications are a bad thing, just as long as each person ends up taking medications that truly helps them. when a psychologist is in school they learn how the brain works and way to listen to people and learn ways to connect a persons%26#039; symptoms to the appropraite term but in my opinion what makes a good therapist is when %26quot;real life%26quot; and common sence is used when talking to a patient and truly listening to them and providing them with some direction to get feeling better and to deal with situations.|||do you pray? maybe that%26#039;s your answer|||Your life sounds almost like my life, there are only 2 more things that I don%26#039;t have and for these maybe this is where %26quot;you can begin the healing%26quot;.

Always remember, when you think you have it bad, there is always someone out there that is actually worse off than you.

I am alone and am still looking for work.

From a family of 6 siblings and only talk to 1 of them.

Raised 2 children on my own, now that they have their dad around, I%26#039;ve been tossed to the curb and kicked down by both kids, one of whom I paid to go to out of state college, I have 3 grandchildren and aren%26#039;t allowed to see them because my daughter said I care more about them than her, well now I do because of her statements to me.

so, I%26#039;m sitting here on a friday night, no hubby, only the sounds of my keyboard.

I know I%26#039;m sounding sorry for myself, but I only wanted you to know I relate to your depression.

You can contact social services by your local county name on the internet.

There are tons of services out there to help you and yes even counseling, I have my first appt. next week. (no costs)

My pride has kept me away from picking up that phone, but my reg. dr. who really knows me, knows how hard I use to work, knows about my family problems, has finally sat me down and explained to me, that sometimes, just sometimes we need help in being pointed in the right direction.

Take one thing at a time, write things down. I honestly could not be in a relationship right now, (for me, I don%26#039;t think it would be fair to the other person) that is only %26quot;my way of thinking%26quot;. right now, but then my self esteem is also low %26amp; I%26#039;d be terrified I%26#039;d even make the mistake of picking the wrong person. (just trying to make you smile:)

So if and it sounds like you do have someone that loves you very much, let him help you. I know I need to find peace within myself, that is what I am trying to do everyday.

Pray and keep God in your heart. Know you aren%26#039;t alone and try try try and stay positive:)

I miss my dad all the time, (he passed away over 16 years ago) but I feel he%26#039;s watching over me, I have too believe or there%26#039;s no reason to live, please keep your chin up and make that call...|||Well, first of all, I would go to a smaller church. Talk to a minister, and make some friends. Go free places, like libraries and pursue your interests there. Talk to like minded people on the internet.

About grief. Something that all adults learn, but that it would be cruel to tell children, is that loss is permanent. The pain never goes away completely. You can%26#039;t heal to the point where you feel like it never happened - it changes who you are.

But you can guide yourself and let others help you to the point where you can function, and find happiness again. You will always feel sad about the loss of your dad. That%26#039;s ok, it%26#039;s human. Just keep struggling to hold on tight to the good things about your father. Remember the fun and the love, and know that through your memory of him, he is still alive in you. He gave himself to you, and so you haven%26#039;t lost him, as long as you keep his memory alive in you.

And most important, get out of the house! some days you just can%26#039;t stand the idea of anything but work, home, work home, but that is soul killing. So even though you don%26#039;t want to, make appointments to go for a walk, and keep them like it was the law. Make a contract with yourself to visit the public library and read at least one book there, and no, downloading from the internet doesn%26#039;t count, that%26#039;s cheating.

Listen to music you used to like, do things you used to like to do. Rediscover yourself.

Wisconsin??

Okay, we%26#039;re thinking about moving from the NW suburbs of Chicago to the suburbs of Milwaukee Wisconsin, Pewaukee area to be exact. My husband received a great job offer...just not sure if it%26#039;s a stable move.... I need input...anyone live there?? What are some good areas, good value%26#039;s housing wise?? Raising kids, young families, newer homes, good schools...that sort of thing.... Also...I%26#039;m very concerned as I heard on the news that Wisconsin has very high unemployment rates and more college grads then jobs, is the economy stable there!?

Any and all input from anyone who knows, would be great!

Thanks in advance!!

My husband is in the hospitality business. He runs hotels and restaurants....he%26#039;s been offered a COE position for a restaurant/hotel there.

I%26#039;m not concerned so much with wether or not we can afford it, but rather wether or not it would be a good place to invest...i.e. purchase a home! I%26#039;ve heard a lot about the lack of economy/jobs and the cost of living is high considering....worried about losing the equity we%26#039;d be investing on our home! Any and all help or advice is welcome, esspecially from those who know the area! Thanks!

Wisconsin??student loan

The economy seems stable enough to me. There are some great companies that are headquartered here. Like any metropolitan area--including Chicago--there are problems, but Pewaukee isn%26#039;t in the city. It%26#039;s a suburb to the west of Milwaukee and there are several suburbs--quite affluent ones--between Pewaukee and the Milwaukee County line.

I assume you%26#039;ve visited Pewaukee and you%26#039;ve seen what life is like there--the lake, the schools, the people. It%26#039;s a great place to raise kids--most places in Wisconsin are. Cities here are usually on lists of the top places to raise a family, with Sheboygan (to the north) and Madison (to the west) named most often.

For children, there are many kinds of resources so you don%26#039;t have to feel that by moving them away from a bigger metropolis you are condemning them to live like hicks. Music, drama, athletic, and cultural organizations such as ethnic dance groups can suppliment more community based activities and just hanging out.

The tourism business is very strong in Wisconsin and people who live here also like to have a good time.

I think it%26#039;s a very good place to raise a family. I live in one of those suburbs between Pewaukee and Milwaukee and my children have grown up safe, well-educated, and with experiences I never really thought they could have. Living here lets them know that there%26#039;s a big world out there to explore and the security of living in a safe place lets them develop confidence to go out there and explore it.

Wisconsin??

loanWell I for one know the principal of the middle school and I know it is a great school system. Pewaukee is a little older than the nearby brookfield, but it is very established and has some big city amenties, without the big city problems. You will love it. Report It

Election 2008: Is 4 Years Enough Time To Correct The Problems?!!?

Does anyone else feel that no matter WHO gets elected; 4 years may not be enough time to fix 8-12 years of our former administrations.

God bless them for the effort; I believe the candidates are sincere. BUT, the time between signing something into law %26amp; actual implementation is never a speedy process.

Do you think its even possible to remove all of our troops and have them home in 1 presidential term?

When they get %26quot;home%26quot;, what jobs will they work? Thats an awful lot of people returning to a nation that already has shaky unemployment rates.

If small businesses are continually over taxed %26amp; forced to pay for %26quot;better%26quot; healthcare - then how will they create new jobs?

I heard it may take a %26quot;9 figure%26quot; budget to to keep %26quot;evildoers%26quot; at bay- but how much is it gonna cost to %26quot;reform%26quot; immigration - keeping them or kicking them out?

What can truly be done in the next 4 years?

Election 2008: Is 4 Years Enough Time To Correct The Problems?!!?cash loan

4 years isn%26#039;t enough. The Bush administration has doomed our country and sent it down a path that it may not be able to return from.

It%26#039;s likely that the next president will only make things worse. It%26#039;s only a matter of time before our country collapse and famine and war spread across the land.

RIP USA 1776-2008

Probably not. But it is enough time to get things moving in the right direction. If they can get things moving to BETTER even if they aren%26#039;t GREAT at the end of the first 4 year term, there is a reasonable expectation that the winner of this election would be able to win the next one in 2012 also. That may give them enough time to make a real difference.

If they make it worse or it remains the same, they probably will lose to other contenders in 2012.

Over-consumption, particularly when it is based on credit. Un-employment is a symptom not a cause.
