Why have Americans become appeasers and quitters?

When a country is at war the focus of the news and media is on war. What people need to realize is that there is more going on in Washington DC that what you see on TV and read in the news. Have you heard lately about how unemployment rates are at an all-time low? Has anyone told you that President Bush has spent more on AIDS research and prevention than any other president?

There are several examples of failures and successes in almost every generation and preidency. People forget that we have had soldiers stationed in Germany and Japan since before the end of WWII. The struggle of today is helping Americans to realize the nature of this war that we are battling. The insurgents that we are fighting against in Iraq are cowards. They don%26#039;t show their face to their enemy. They lurk in the night hiding bombs that kill innocent families and soldiers. We have two groups in Washington that cannot decide together what to do.

The fact of the matter is that regardless of what the motives were for going into Iraq, this war must be finished and it must be won. Our generation has become a people with the disease of ease. They want their freedom for free, their government to take care of them, their leaders to be without fault. Even John F. Kennedy said %26quot;Ask not for your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.%26quot; Are we so focused on ourselves that we don%26#039;t realize that our actions are affecting generations to come?

Out of the Greatest Generation came a leader by the name of Winston Churchill. One of his most famous quotes was %26quot;Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival. %26quot; How very true. If we do not show our enemies that we are the STRONGER, more COMMITTED TO OUR VALUES, that we have more HONOR for those who fought before us, we have failed every generation who fought and lost their lives to ensure that we would have the rights and priviliges that we have today.

WInston Churchill also said this of those who would rather give up the fight and not finish what is begun %26quot;An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile, hoping it will eat him last.%26quot; Sadly, it has been looked down upon that certain leaders of our country have stood by their unflinching word. Yet another quote by Winston Churchill is %26quot;I was only the servant of my country and had I, at any moment, failed to express her unflinching resolve to fight and conquer, I should at once have been rightly cast aside.%26quot;

And the American People are now saying that they would rather give up the fight for freedom, not only our freedom, but the freedom of every person born into this world. How selfish. How sad that people have forgotten how it felt on that morning when we heard that so many of our loved ones were needlessly killed by cowards that won%26#039;t even come face to face with their %26quot;enemy.%26quot;

God bless the brave and selfless individuals who fight for the freedoms of the APPEASERS who are now trying to cut off the funding that could give our troops the supplies necessary to end this war. They are capable. They are strong. They need only our faith and support. I give them mine!!

I can give you 3,401 reasons and counting. We are tired of seeing our troops dying for nothing!!!!

Lovely sentiment. Maybe I%26#039;d be inclined to agree with you if only you (or anyone, for that matter) could explain to me how you eliminate emotion, which is what would have to happen to %26quot;defeat terrorism.%26quot;|||only the ones in charge have. It must be something in the water. Glad I don%26#039;t drink that.|||Americans haven%26#039;t become appeasers. Who would the US be appeasing if the troops were pulled out of Iraq? There is no defined enemy, there is no one to either surrender to or accept surrender from. More importantly, most of the Iraqis want us out including the current Shiite parliament. Leaving Iraq would be nothing more than respecting a sovereign nations desire to be free from occupation.|||There isn%26#039;t an active war being fought in Germany, Japan or South Korea so comparing them to Iraq is childish. Even the Actor/President Reagan had the brains to pull out of Lebonan, when nothing positive was being accomplished by sacraficing our soldiers lives.

Oh! just a little bonus for you:

9/11 happened under the watch of

1. Republican President

2. Republican Governor

3. Republian Mayor

If a Republican is elected president in 2008, America will be at risk for another terrorist attack on the scale of Sept. 11, 2001 or worse.|||You are a ignorant *****|||Amber, I frankly don%26#039;t appreciate being called an %26#039;appeaser%26#039; OR a %26#039;quitter%26#039; by someone who simply doesn%26#039;t agree with my point of view. You%26#039;re entitled to your point of view too, and whatever it may be, it doesn%26#039;t give me the right to call you names.

You fail to recognize that there are many sides to every argument, and many grains of truth to all of them. For starters, unemployment isn%26#039;t at an %26quot;all-time low%26quot;, not by a long shot. It was 4.6% last year, which isn%26#039;t bad as things go. But it was 2.9% in 1953, 3.0% in 1952, and lower than 4.6% many other times. Want more recent lower numbers? Okay, how about during the Clinton administration? In 2000, unemployment was 4.0%, in 1999 it was 4.2%, and in 1998 it was 4.5%. In fact, during the eight years of the Clinton administration, it averaged 5.2%. So far, in five years of the Bush administration, it%26#039;s averaged 5.283%. But don%26#039;t believe me, look it up yourself at http://www.bls.gov/cps/prev_yrs.htm .

In keeping with your apparent tendency to call people names, you call %26#039;the insurgents%26#039; (which they most definitely are not...look up the definition!) %26#039;cowards%26#039; who %26#039;don%26#039;t show their face to their enemy%26#039;. From my perspective, sitting in Washington and signing papers to send OTHER PEOPLE%26#039;S CHILDREN to war is pretty cowardly too. Are you aware that not one son or daughter of a Senator or Representative currently in the U.S. Congress is serving overseas? Does that really strike you as shouldering the burden of war in an honest and fair manner, or does it sound more like some rich, powerful people sending out some poorer, less powerful people to do their dirty work?

If you%26#039;d like to discuss what%26#039;s going on in Washington, by all means open up a conversation. But if the first thing I hear is you calling me an %26#039;appeaser%26#039; and a %26#039;quitter%26#039;, why should I bother taking you seriously? You%26#039;re obviously not interested in anything I have to say, nor do you have anything to say to me except platitudes supporting your party%26#039;s platform. Why would I be interested in listen to another diatribe?
