Is my debit card a hybrid?

I turned 18 a few months ago, so I recently opened a checking account at Washington Mutual; with it came a debit card. What I%26#039;m wondering is, does this also function as a credit card? I ask because I was offered a credit card at a store a few days ago, and they told me that I%26#039;d need to show them my primary credit card. When I said that I didn%26#039;t yet have one, they pointed to my debit card and said that it was one since it has a MasterCard logo on it. Also, when swiping the debit card, there was an option to enter a PIN and a %26quot;credit%26quot; option.

So, does it function as a regular credit card?

Yep, I use my debit cards like a credit card all the time!

Instead of entering my PIN I choose the credit card option and it directly deducts the money from my checking account, like a debit card. My debit card has a Master Card logo, so I can use it anywhere that accepts Master Card. My bank gives me a small percentage (.5%) of my purchase back each time I use it as %26quot;credit%26quot; vs %26quot;debit%26quot;....

Yeah, it can. I use mine as a CC all the time at stores and gas stations. If the cashier asks, just tell them %26quot;credit%26quot;.|||Merchants get a marginally cheaper rate by charging against a debit card vs a credit card. Some debit cards function just like a credit card for a charge but DO NOT have a credit line attached. So no, you don%26#039;t have a credit card hybrid.|||No, the money comes directly from your checking account. Overdraw that account and it will be a costly experience.|||If it has a credit card logo, then yes it will most likely function like a credit card. More often they are called a check card though as it draws the money directly from your checking account like a check. When you use it at stores choose the credit option as you will not be charged any ATM fees as you would if you use it as a debit card..|||yes
