How do I deal with a credit card transaction mistake?

Last July, I attended a trade show to sell and promote my products. I processed credit cards manually and made a mistake w/ one transaction and over charged a customer by $80. She called my attention after she received her bill and I profusely apologized for the mistake. We both agreed that I will I send her a check for the refund. Then in October, my checking account had been breached and the bank closed it. I transfered my account to another bank. Yesterday, Nov. 2, this lady called me, extremely irrate, threatening to ruin my business%26#039; reputation. She said she tried to cash my check JUST YESTERDAY and of course it bounced! I explained what happened and offered to send her another check but she%26#039;s demanding that I pay her the bank surcharge and interests. Should I be responsible for this? I mean, I understand that I made a mistake.....but wait for 2 months before cashing a check and now demanding that I pay interests and surcharges ?! Does this make sense to anyone?!

How do I deal with a credit card transaction mistake?rate my teacher

Regardless of how long she waited to cash the check, the credit card mistake was ultimately an error on your part. You should send her the $80 and also cover any bank charges she incurred as a result, along with a note apologizing for the error. Mistakes happen, but it%26#039;s how you deal with them that will leave lasting impressions on your customers and the reputation of your business.

How do I deal with a credit card transaction mistake? loan

Make good the check, pay the bank fees.

I don%26#039;t know what %26#039;interests%26#039; she could be claiming, especially since she sat on the check so long.

Have her list all the charges, then tell her you will send a cashiers check or USPS money order, her preference, for $xx.xx -- just add the bank fees to the $80 %26amp; ignore the rest.

If she argues, say it was your mistake, this settlement will cover her losses, and it is what you believe is fair.

If you are going to do business at trade shows you must act like a business person.

You have undoubtedly lost any future business with this woman. She can not ruin your business%26#039; reputation. She could haul you into court, wasting everyone%26#039;s time %26amp; money -- some people do that. This is a business risk for everyone.

You have to do the right thing because people will know if you are a cut corner person. It is so easy to spot, believe me.|||She probably shouldn%26#039;t have waited 2 months to cash the check, but when your account was closed, did you look to see if there were any outstanding checks? And do you have any more like that which could come back to bite you? Maybe you might have contacted those recipients at the time.

Maybe by discussing that both of you might be at fault, you could agree to split the difference of the additional charges.

If she is more headache than it%26#039;s worth, then maybe you can just let her know that the first mistake was yours, the second mistake was hers, you%26#039;ll send her a cashier%26#039;s check for the original amount, and thank her for her business, but you%26#039;re not willing to take abuse for any further business.

I guess it depends on how big an account she is or could become, and how much influence she really has.

You should check out Timothy Ferriss%26#039; The 4-hour Workweek for his story about how he came to understand that the majority of his clients that were taking up the majority of his time yet only accounted for a small percentage of his sales. It%26#039;s the 80/20 rule at work.|||You are responsible for the lady%26#039;s incurred expenses. It%26#039;s not HER fault that you screwed up her credit purchase in the first place, and it%26#039;s not HER fault that you had issues with your bank checking account.

If you had done your bookkeeping properly, you would have realized that this woman had not yet cashed your check, and that you still had an outstanding liability. At that point, you should have called or written the woman, explaining that this account was to be closed and that you would issue different form of payment.

Is there a way to consolidate $3k credit card debt when you don't own a home?

I have allowed my husband to drag me into debt, way over my eyeballs. I am only $3,000 in debt and have cut up the cards, along with his copies. My credit score was great, and now it%26#039;s as low as possible. I thought he%26#039;d been paying on them, but it turns out we haven%26#039;t made a payment since OCTOBER 2006! Bill collectors are calling me constantly, I%26#039;m 6 1/2 months pregnant, already on medicaid, filing for food stamps, etc. I do not want to declare bankruptcy (especially since I have nothing to show for his frivilous b/s). We do not own a house, and I%26#039;m living with my parents now (see my multiple questions question). I feel I%26#039;ve no choice but to put my new baby into daycare along with my one year old son, once the new baby is born. I have to get out of debt, it is tearing me apart - mentally %26amp; physically. My husband got a job offer in Cali., and is moving out there. I only make $280 a month now, and have to go get a full time job after our new baby is born.

Anyone know how to help??

There are lots of consolidation and counseling companies. When I was having debt problems I contacted www.consolidatedcredit.org and they have been extremely helpful with my creditors. My payment is $146 a month to pay on 3 cards equalling about $2000 in debt. Try them.

Is there a way to consolidate $3k credit card debt when you don%26#039;t own a home? loan

I would either beg your parents to help you get a loan, then string it out as long as humanly possible. ask them to make the payments then you make payments to them since you not making very much. Also, are moving with your husband or is he getting kicked out. if he is gone as the court to garnish his wages to help.|||I would say not to worry too much. $3000 is a managable amount. Pay the minimums. Go to work at some point after the new baby is born. Have your husband send you at least the minimum. You may be paying for a number of years, but eventually, you will be fine. It will all work out okay. It will all be okay.

Best! Good luck with the new baby.|||we did a debt management program and it was a total headache but 5 years later we have raised our credit almost 200 points and no longer have more credit cards than we need. It is a total pain in the arch when you start every account is late and they are calling you but it doesn%26#039;t last that long and you pay less than you did with all the payments. By the way we didn%26#039;t own our home when we started but we do now and it is nice in a nice neighborhood. Keep in mind 3K is really Small in the over all scheme of things you could possibly manage it yourself call the companies first to see if they will lower your rates and stop using the cards but the other program works if you need help

$1,000 Credit Line available for people with bad credit?

Hi

I%26#039;m looking for a legitimate credit card company that offers $1,000 credit line to people with bad credit. I know there are some but I don%26#039;t know which ones are legit. I received an offer for a $5,000 one unsecured but they wanted my bank account info up front. I know that%26#039;s risky and probably isn%26#039;t legit so I%26#039;m not falling for it. When I was just starting out and had no credit whatsoever the only company that would touch me was capital one, and then they only gave me a $400 credit limit. But after making steady payments on time in about two months they gave me $200 more and a month or so after that they gave me a $1000 credit limit. I just went to the capital one website because at the time I was looking for a way to suppliment my college income, and they provided it.|||In my experience there are two types of Bad Credit Credit Cards. One is a secured card, and the other has a much higher rate of interest. Both can be used to rebuild your credit worthiness after getting back on your feet. Secured credit cards are great for rebuilding your credit. You send the credit card company a pre deposit amount set by the company%26lt;!--This amount will be equal to your credit limit. Pay over your minimum every month and send your payment in before the due date and you will build your credit up gradually. Never miss a payment, be late on a payment, or go over your credit limit even by a small amount.

http://badcredits.awardspace.com/credit-...

You don%26#039;t want the company to ever have to take from your pre deposit amount because they want you to handle your account just like you would an unsecured card. A great thing about this pre deposit amount that you send in is it can act as a savings account even earning a little--%26gt;bit of interest for you. After establishing yourself with the credit card company, they may decide to give you a unsecured credit card or increase the limit on the one you have with them without having to make another deposit. Secured credit cards are a good choice for anyone wishing to rebuild their credit history.|||The best unsecured credit card to get for people with bad credit is either continental finance or first premier. As a business owner - I can tell you that Amex is much more consumer oriented than the rest. If you dispute a charge, they will side with you faster than Visa or MC - no question. It is harder to get approved for the card but the benefits are much higher, including travelers checks and cool extras. I think that you would be much happier with the Amex. As to the comments that Visa and MC are more widely accepted - if you have been approved for all of them anyway, you should use the Amex as your primary and Visa when not accepted.

About 8 years ago I got a %26quot;smart card%26quot; from Chase, they replaced it with a chipless card when expiration date rolled around. Since they never implemented any chip features (I don%26#039;t know why), I guess they decided to save the chip money.

Lately, there%26#039;s been a VISA ad showing the use of a %26quot;contactless%26quot; smart card that you just wave to effect a purchase. I don%26#039;t think that a credit card that can be read while its still in your pocket is a good idea though.

I suspect the failure of smart cards in the US is due to lack of trust in the technology by both consumers and providers.

Can I keep using 0% APR, $0 fee balance transfer offers every 12 months to pay off my credit at 0% A

I have about $16,000 in credit card debt at 16% APR. I%26#039;m going to use a balance transfer with no fee to a card with 0% for 12 months. Can I just do a similar transfer every 12 months to a different card (with similar terms) to keep getting the 0% rate? Does this affect my credit score? Any pitfalls or fine print details I haven%26#039;t considered?

Can I keep using 0% APR, $0 fee balance transfer offers every 12 months to pay off my credit at 0% APR.?no fax loan

Yes this is a very smart idea.

You can transfer every 12 months to a different card to keep getting the 0% rate with different companies (if another company offer it to you). However, most credit card companies will not let you transfer balances within the same company to another 0% card. So if your current 0% card is with capital one, if citigroup offer you a 0% credit card in 12 months, then you can transfer your balance to citigroup. However, Capital one will not let you transfer it to another capital one card.

It is a good idea to do this when your 12 months expire becaue the interest rate usually skyrocket. By continuously transferring the balance you will keep it at 0%.

If you do not charge any more money to your credit card, then you can pay down your debt faster since you are only paying on the principle on your 0% card.

Downsides are 1) if you are late one time with a payment, your interest rate skyrocket, 2) they usually charge a transfer fee to transfer to their card (i.e. $16,000 will be $16,100 after transferring) and 3) this only work if you never make a purchase on your 0% card. The reason why you should not make a purchase on the 0% card is because purchases are at a higher interest rate (not 0%) and all payments will be applied toward the finance charge of the purchases and very little will touch your 0% portion. And this defeats the purpose of having a 0% on the balance.

Your credit score will improve if you keep all previous credit cards open with a $0 balance. Why does this improve your credit score? Because credit scores uses the ratio of total balance to total credit limit. If your total credit card balance remain relatively the same at about $16,100 (with transfer fee) and you have 2 open credit card with a credit limit of $16,000 your ratio will decrease.

For instance with 1 credit card your ratio is $16,000 balance / $16,000 credit limit = 100% ratio. But now opening a credit card your ratio wlll be 16,100 balance / (16,000 + 16,000) limit = approximately 50% ratio. So you just decrease your ratio. This will improve your credit score.

Unlike what others have said, you lose very little to no points for opening a new credit card. You only lose points if you apply for too many credit cards in a 6 month window. This is called hard inquiries and too many hard inquiries in a short time period decreases your credit score.

Also, your credit score will improve faster because you will pay down the principle faster using 0% APR card.

Responsibility is the key. So if you qualify, keep transferring your credit card debt to the lowest APR card, try not to use credit cards any more, make all of your payments on time, and try to pay more then the minimum payment.

Can I keep using 0% APR, $0 fee balance transfer offers every 12 months to pay off my credit at 0% APR.?

dumb *** question|||In theory, the answer is yes...

In reality, people usually have very little self discipline, and will not change their spending habits... causing their debtload to grow, and allow them to get into deper credit card problems.

Pay off your credit cards, and stop using them for routine purchases. Use them only for EXTREME emergencies.|||you will have 0% apr, but you will still have a payment schedule that you must meet. if you continue to do this, while not fixing your SPENDING PROBLEM, your balance will continue to rise, you will not be able to meet your minimum monthly payments, and then you will be in trouble. as for your credit score, every time you apply for a new card, your score goes down a little bit, and your score is affected by revolving balances.|||Opening new credit will affect your score negatively. If you have to keep opening new cards to get the 0% into APR, then yes, your credit score will go down.|||I did that for a year or so but eventually my debt became so high that they stopped offering such deals. Also the more cards you open, the less your credit score is going to be. I ended up having 10 credit cards and getting lost between them and sometimes missing the minimum payments.

You can do that for a while but don%26#039;t get more than 5 credit cards.|||Yes, you can, but you are not going to, if you were going to do this you wouldn%26#039; t be so far in debt to begin with. You do not have the self disicipline to stop from borrowing money in the future or to pay more than the mininum payment as to get out of debt sooner.|||They say that transferring balances from one credit card to another (as long as it has a lower interest rate) is good for your credit in terms of paying it off but to keep doing that is maybe not to smart. If they were to ever look at your credit score they%26#039;ll see and know that your constantly transferring debt to different cards every 12 months and then they write an opinion. You don%26#039;t want to be seen as a risk or untrustworthy credit potential.|||It probably will affect your credit score because you will either have too many open cards with available credit that you can all of a sudden use or it can show a record of too many closed cards.

Where are you going to find a card with a $16,000 limit when you already owe that much?

You also better read the fine print on the no fee card. I can%26#039;t imagine a company loaning $16,000 with no return.|||It is indeed possible, however the banks wouldn%26#039;t offer it if they didn%26#039;t make out 90% of the time. You must begin with a zero balance and you cannot charge anything more on the card, the way payments are applied is always to the lowest interest balance first (the zero percent) while you will pay 18%, or more each month on purchases. If you transfer and don%26#039;t use the card, yes it will work...It takes extreme discipline. I got an offer for 2.99% until the balance is paid off...I transfered $20K into my savings account ( I earn 5.05% APR). I actually earn 2.06% on this transaction. If you read the fine print you will find that one late payment, or even a late payment that they pick up off your credit report ( which they pull regularly) will result in the interest jumping to the max.( around 26%). I%26#039;m always ready to pay off my balance next month if needed. I am very disciplined and watch my total indebtedness go down and my savings go up each month. Most people don%26#039;t do this and just get further in debt.|||Be sure to read all the fine print on that offer. Those special offers have more gottchas.

First, you may not get a credit line large enough for that $16K. You could end up with half on the new card and half on the old card. Now you have two large monthly minimum payments.

Second, the new card could require you to make a certain number of purchases each month at the regular interest rate -- more of the offers are going that route.|||ryan, you are a smart guy...i am doing the same thing and all is going well..your fico will go up and you end up paying 0% on your loans...great deal...but never be late on a payment, but if you are, just roll the money into another 0% card

I want to buy something at Apple. I%26#039;ve never had a credit card before... and was wondering if I%26#039;d be better off (if that%26#039;s even possible) purchasing the item on a credit card to establish some better credit or use the in-store credit offered by Apple?

Does this question even have a clear winner? As far as spending-- I%26#039;m not worried about going into debt using the card. I%26#039;m responsible about it and know what the company is up to... interest-wise.

Thanks in advance.

I want to buy something that%26#039;s around $400, should I get a CC or use store credit?credit cards

I always say cash if you can do it but that%26#039;s not the question. Really it%26#039;s going to boil down who has the better terms and what%26#039;s the end result as far as your credit is concerned. This is where you%26#039;re going to have to call and ask some questions. If you%26#039;re going with a payment plan with apple you need to find out what the rate is..and if it is indeed 0% you need to find out how long that 0% is for when it expires what the rate will end up being once the 0% does expire and if it%26#039;s against the rules to pay early. A lot of times especially with instore credit like that They%26#039;ll give you 0% and you have a monthly payment but if you pay it off in full before the 0% expires then they charge you an early payment penalty fee. Or there%26#039;s always the situationwhere if you don%26#039;t pay it off by the time the 0% expires you end up paying all the interest you would have accrued during the time period you did have the loan..so they essentially charge you back interest. It%26#039;s a weird weird world with instore credit. They%26#039;re tricky so read all the terms carefully. And if you%26#039;re end goal more than anything is to earn credit history. Ask apple if they do report to the credit agencies when you%26#039;re on a payment plan. If they say yes and the terms are good with the 0% and there%26#039;s no sneaky changes in there then I%26#039;d say go with apple. If they don%26#039;t report or there are sneaky terms that you can%26#039;t/don%26#039;t want to abide by I%26#039;d go with a regular credit card. Now considering that you%26#039;ve never had a credit card before depending on what your credit does look like..you may end up with a bum deal on your card interest rate anyway. Or you may end up in the situation where you don%26#039;t qualify for a regular credit card and you%26#039;ll end up with either a secured credit card or if you%26#039;re a student, then a student credit card. But whatever you do when applying for instore credit or credit cards the most important thing to remember is to read your terms and agreements carefully and thoroughly. And if you don%26#039;t understand something thats in the terms don%26#039;t just ignore it and assume it%26#039;s normal make sure and call customer service to have them explain it to you. There%26#039;s no stupid questions when it comes to getting into debt. You need to make sure you fully and completely understand everything that%26#039;s in there or it could really really hurt you in the future.

Is my debit card a hybrid?

I turned 18 a few months ago, so I recently opened a checking account at Washington Mutual; with it came a debit card. What I%26#039;m wondering is, does this also function as a credit card? I ask because I was offered a credit card at a store a few days ago, and they told me that I%26#039;d need to show them my primary credit card. When I said that I didn%26#039;t yet have one, they pointed to my debit card and said that it was one since it has a MasterCard logo on it. Also, when swiping the debit card, there was an option to enter a PIN and a %26quot;credit%26quot; option.

So, does it function as a regular credit card?

Is my debit card a hybrid?exchange rate

Yep, I use my debit cards like a credit card all the time!

Instead of entering my PIN I choose the credit card option and it directly deducts the money from my checking account, like a debit card. My debit card has a Master Card logo, so I can use it anywhere that accepts Master Card. My bank gives me a small percentage (.5%) of my purchase back each time I use it as %26quot;credit%26quot; vs %26quot;debit%26quot;....

Yeah, it can. I use mine as a CC all the time at stores and gas stations. If the cashier asks, just tell them %26quot;credit%26quot;.|||Merchants get a marginally cheaper rate by charging against a debit card vs a credit card. Some debit cards function just like a credit card for a charge but DO NOT have a credit line attached. So no, you don%26#039;t have a credit card hybrid.|||No, the money comes directly from your checking account. Overdraw that account and it will be a costly experience.|||If it has a credit card logo, then yes it will most likely function like a credit card. More often they are called a check card though as it draws the money directly from your checking account like a check. When you use it at stores choose the credit option as you will not be charged any ATM fees as you would if you use it as a debit card..|||yes

How long should you wait after being turned down for a credit card to apply for another one?

If you%26#039;ve been turned down by one company, how long should you wait before trying to apply for a card with a diffrent company. I tryed about 2 weeks ago to apply for a Capital One card and got turned down, but I got offered to apply for a secured card. I found a secured card with my bank, Wells Fargo, and want to apply but im afraid ill get turned down because of the Capital One application I made 2 weeks ago. Will this affect it or am I safe to apply for the secured card?

How long should you wait after being turned down for a credit card to apply for another one?credit report

Since you already bank with Wells Fargo, getting the secured card shouldn%26#039;t be a problem, just don%26#039;t apply for credit for a while after that. Each time that you apply for credit regardless of whether you%26#039;re approved or not, you lose anywhere between 3-5 points. With a secured card, your chances for getting denied are far lower. My suggestion to you would be once you get the secured card, build the limit as high as you possibly can during the 12 months that it%26#039;s secured. I would only make SMALL purchases ($20/max) and pay that off on time every month. This way, you show activity, without a high balance. It%26#039;s not about how much you charge that builds credit, it%26#039;s how well you pay on time every month. And remember, once the card converts to a regular card, you get the deposit back. My suggestion would be to start up an emergency fund with it.

Good luck!

Maybe you should ask them...|||every time you apply for one of those credit cards you are lowering your credit score making it harder and harder to get approved for one.|||I%26#039;d just keep trying.

sooner or later one of them is going to say yes!|||It doesn%26#039;t matter...

A secured CC means you have to have money in a savings account and that amount is what you get on your credit card to spend, so in case you don%26#039;t make the payment they will get their money.

An unsecured CC like the one you got turned down for, they did a credit check on you and didn%26#039;t feel you were worth the risk.

A secured cc is good way to start if you have bad credit or no credit.

Just be sure to look over the fees and stuff they charge...

READ THE FINE PRINT before you sign anything.|||Wait at least four minutes.|||With a secured credit card you make a security deposit and that becomes your line of credit. So I would go ahead and apply for that one because the chances are higher that you will be approved for that.

With unsecured credit cards, I would generally wait at least 3 months before trying to apply for another one. You don%26#039;t want too many in a short period of time as that can affect your FICO score.|||i think your suppose to wait 3-6 mo|||if it has been 2 weeks give it 2 more and then try if you bank with the company it is easyer to get one form them. I would alway wait 1 month because every time you apply it makes you credit score go down. I hope that helps you good luck.|||you can get a secured card any time you put money into a account to cover the card and you can open them all day long|||As explained- you cannot get denied a secured credit card, as you pay in advance what your credit line will be.

When I did not have credit, I got a secured cc from Bank of America and a secured cc from Capital one. I paid 500 Dollars with Capital One and received a credit of 500 Dollars. Now, Capital One was great- cause they raised my credit limit to 750 Dollars after 3 month already. So I would establish credit fast. I applied for an american express- and was denied. I applied for the same American Express 6 month later and got approved...

It obviously depends on your situation. I was a new resident in the US with no credit, and it took me 1 1/2 years to have 3 credit cards now.|||If you were turned down for a credit card from one company you will get turned down for the next. Will using a personal loan to consolidate cc debt negatively impact my credit score?

I find myself in a bit of a pickle. My credit cards have high balances. Both cards combined total $23,000 (17,000 on one at 19% interest and $6,000 on another at 18% interest). While I try to pay more than the minimum due each month, I find myself unable to pay them down.....life has been getting in the way. I%26#039;ve contacted the cards and they refuse to lower my interest rate. I have thought to apply for a personal loan to consolidate this debt (hoping for a much lower interest rate than the cards offer) but I%26#039;m not sure if this is the best solution. I would like to be free of this debt within 3 years. However, I%26#039;m nervous to do anything that might negatively impact my credit score. My score is already lower than it should be b/c of the high credit card debt. I have established credit and have a history of paying bills on time but my score fluctuates b/w 550-565 b/c the cards have reached their limits.

If you always pay on time you should a better credit score, but consolidate your debts will no affect you credit score.

You will have to be very careful, because usually people who consolidate debts do ok in the begining but in a while they start to use their crdit cards again and find themselves paying the loan and the credits cards.

If you have decided to do this, try to include everything you owe, not just credit cards, you can do that, for example:

You can consolidate

...credit cards

...loans you actually owe

Before doing all this RESEARCH al least 10 institutions to refinance, have it all in writing.

You can too apply to a credit card that offers a low interest, and move your balances to that one.

Will using a personal loan to consolidate cc debt negatively impact my credit score?

surely|||taking out a loan to pay down credit card debt is a popular way of getting out of that kind of trouble. It will consolidate your payments at a lower interest rate, thus making the debt easier to pay off. Plus, you will not be subject to the late fees and charges on ur cards. It would be a good idea to get rid of some of the cards once they are paid off. That will help your score. It will also help to have only one acct with a balance (your personal loan) as opposed to several credit cards.

be careful with the loan that you get though. Make sure you get a fixed rate.|||No|||When you gets into a debt trap it becomes difficult to get out of it. Taking more loans to repay the debts leads to more stress and financial crisis. Finally, there is no option but to adopt debt consolidation, which leads to a new llease of life. Many people receive abusive calls from debt collectors and are stressed. Hence opting for debt consolidation is the number one solution and helps to overcome abusive calls and be free from mental stress.

i dont think they can just stop collecting the money, because they need to pay the stores for the merchandise that your son bought. if the credit card company didnt get money from your son, then whatever he bought wouldnt be paid for, and thats kind of like stealing. good luck, i hope he gets out of debt! he%26#039;ll hopefully get another job soon, afterall, its not his fault he was laid off|||no|||They don%26#039;t give up on their money. They take you to court.|||No, not really. They may write it off their books and then %26quot;sell%26quot; debt to a collection agency. This may be what you are experiencing now. Unfortunately, by using a credit counciling agency (careful with these, a lot of fraud companies. Check with the Better Business Bureau www.bbb.org on any you consider) you can stop the calls, but not the debt. He borrowed the money, spent it, and he owes the money back. Try to negotiate a fixed payment plan with the credit card companies, have him explain his current situation, and work out a payment plan. But DO NOT ignore their calls.

First, it will ruin his credit for years to come, and if he can ever get a loan, he will pay huge amounts of interest.

Second, they can get a judgement, against future assets or earnings. As you can see this is a serious matter. Please have him call the credit card companies and work out a plan.|||He can call the companies and tell them his situation and see if they are willing to lower the minimum payments or make some other arrangement in light of his circumstances. (Fair Debt Collection Practices Act) Some credit card companies have programs that will keep the card issuer at bay if you come upon hardship, a type of assurance program. Find out if it applies or if it is too late. Every state has it%26#039;s own statute of limitations for collecting a debt. If a debt collector hasn%26#039;t collect after a certain amount of time they must give up, unless there is a money judgement and then it%26#039;s completely different. If there is a judgement go to a civil court and try to get the judgement vacated.|||if the debt is about a thousand or two, they will write it off then sell it to a collection agency. then thats all they gonna do; call you or send tou a threatening letter. if you check his credit report it will say charge-off. but, if the debt is a large amount, like 5k and up, they could sue your son. file bankrupcy, after 2 yrs he could start fresh.|||WHEN the credit card company gives up, they WILL sell the debt to a collector. When the collector gives up, they will sell it to another collector. When you have written acknowledgment that you have settled the debt, some collector will misplace the record of settlement.|||No, after the statute of limitations has passed, they can%26#039;t sue him though. Is this a good idea?

Yes, you have too many credit cards.

You can just call the cards that you want to cancel and do it over the phone.

Closing Credit Card Accounts?

loan

NONONONONONO... IF YOU CLOSE YOUR CREDIT CARD ACCOUNT YOU CUT YOUR HISTORY AND THAT MAKES UP 35% OF YOUR CREDIT SCORES... JUST DONT USE THEM IF YOU DONT WANT TO..|||I just found out, from my Credit Union that closing accounts really kills your credit score. Better to pay them off and just not use them. Shred the cards and have fraud alert put on the accounts.|||No it is not a good idea. Your credit score is also based on how many credit cards you have and how you use them. If you cancel most of them, it will adversely affect your credit score. You might want to cancel some of the newest ones you have and do it a few at a time.|||A big part of your credit score is based on the ratio of revolving debt to available credit limit. When you close credit card accounts you decrease your overall limit, thus increasing the debt percentage of any balances. Carrying balances of more than 30% kills your score. Before you consider closing any credit cards, pay off all balances first.

Keep your oldest credit cards that don%26#039;t charge annual fees. When you close accounts, you close the history too.

While many will tell you to keep all those accounts open, I suggest that you only keep the two oldest major credit cards per person and close the rest. Your score will take a hit but it will rebound quickly. Having a stack of credit cards just for the sake of having the cards is silly and dangerous. All those cards have to be secured and monitored. They are just an opportunity for theft and fraud.

If you do decide to close accounts, do it via letter and request confirmation that the account is closed and 0 balance. Closed credit card accounts have a habit of coming back to life.|||For more info, check out some articles about FICO 08. If you do decide to close any, you definitely want to keep your oldest accounts. Also, realize that if you total the limits of all those cards, you have several thousand dollars of available credit, giving you a good ratio. Closing accounts will lower your available credit, making the ratio appear to be higher.|||Yes, close them. You can do it over the phone, but I would ask for confirmation in writing. Wait till you receive the confirmation, then destroy the cards. It may have a slight adverse effect on your credit score; but it will bounce back quickly if you keep everything current. If at all possible, close the newest accounts and those with lower credit limits. Call on the older accounts and ask them to match the lower rates you%26#039;re getting with other cards.|||There is absolutely no reason to have this many credit cards. That much credit can lead you into spending temptation and debt; and you can%26#039;t maximize the rewards on any individual card.

Yes, it can help your credit score if you have a high ratio of available credit (high limits) to debt (amount owed). But it%26#039;s more important to have a strong history of managing that credit responsibily.

First I suggest canceling any card with an annual fee. That%26#039;s an unnecessary expense, given all the options out there.

Then cancel the cards with the highest interest rates. Ideally, you%26#039;d pay off the entire bill every month and not get charged any interest, but of course that isn%26#039;t always feasible.

Then focus on keeping cards that offer rewards - cash back, airline miles, etc. Decide which rewards you would really benefit from the most.

Also, try to transfer your credit limits to the few cards you keep, or keep the cards with the highest limits.

Visa and Mastercard are pretty much accepted everywhere equally, so you can pick one or the other, you don%26#039;t each need both.

You can close in writing or over the phone, but over the phone they will try to talk you into keeping the card or switching to another, so ask yourself how firm you are before calling.

Does bankruptcy lower credit score tremendously ?

I had filed Ch.7 personal bankruptcy few years ago, although I am not proud of it, but it doesn%26#039;t seems to hurt my credit score too bad. I am not aware of my credit score before the bankruptcy, but for the last 2 years my score remains at about 700, which is not bad, I don%26#039;t think my score was 800+ before the bankruptcy. Recently I even got approved with high limit credit cards with 0% APR for 12 months, and banks that had written off my debt offer me credit card again. Everyone says bankruptcy is a nuclear bomb to the credit score and profile for 10 years, but it doesn%26#039;t seems to be so in my case. Does all the negative associate with bankruptcy are truth or myth ?

Does bankruptcy lower credit score tremendously ?credit check

Typically, your score is not lowered by filing a bankruptcy. Most people who file are so far behind on bills and are carrying such high credit card balances, that their credit score is already really low. About a year after filing, your score can improve by as much as two hundred points because you are no longer late on payments and aren%26#039;t carrying the high balances. This doesn%26#039;t happen in every case, but oddly enough it does happen and people end up with better credit after filing.

Did your credit report mention the bankruptcy?

But what are you doing getting new credit cards?

Isn%26#039;t that how you wound up in bankruptcy in the first place?|||i don%26#039;t know how you dodged the bullet but good luck any way and i just hope you do not use the new credit to get back in that old boat again!!!|||I believe that many of the negatives associated with bankruptcy are just a myth. The experts and the people who say otherwise are just wrong.

(I%26#039;m just amazed when I watch all of the TV shows that are about people struggling with their debts. The advice is always the same: %26quot;you have to pay your debts.%26quot; They never tell anyone that bankruptcy is an option. It%26#039;s just crazy, because many times you can%26#039;t pay your debts and bankruptcy is your only option.)

Before I filed for bankruptcy, I attended a seminar at the Learning Annex, which was about how to pay off all of your debts. The seminar wasn%26#039;t realistic. The person who gave the seminar actually said that %26quot;everyone can repay their debts.%26quot; This isn%26#039;t true.

Millions of people file for bankruptcy each year. Life goes on and does in fact get better.

Bankruptcy will give you a fresh start. It%26#039;s a new opportunity in life.

I also filed about a year ago. I didn%26#039;t have any choice because I couldn%26#039;t even make the minimum payments on my credit cards. Also, I had unexpected medical bills that I just couldn%26#039;t afford to pay.

In my opinion, if a person has really bad credit and is struggling to pay their bills each month, filing for bankruptcy can actually increase your credit score.

After I filed for bankruptcy it was very easy for me to get new credit cards. Also, I%26#039;ve received offers from lenders who want to lend me money to buy a car.

Also, after you file for bankruptcy you are a much better credit risk, because you cannot file again for a certain number of years and also you are now debt free.

Good question.|||I think it might have been a clerical error to allow your credit score to stay so good. Really, declaring bankruptcy anywhere is like wearing a big tee shirt with %26quot;Don%26#039;t Loan Me ANY Money%26quot; written on it.

It is absolutely true what they say about bankruptcy ruining your credit. I don%26#039;t know how you avoided it. Perhaps your credit score was higher than you thought when you declared. I am truly astonished at your results.

If I apply for multiple credit cards for the rewards, will it hurt my credit score?

Thanks!

Actually, the ideal number of cards to have is 3. Keep balances low. I usually recommend keeping a balance - but a very low one. Make a 10$ purchase once a month and pay the balance down. Cancelling accounts does hurt your score temporarily. It%26#039;s better to keep the accounts open - for one, it doesn%26#039;t hurt your score like closing it will. for another, the average age of your accounts keeps getting more recent (which also has a negative impact on your score).

Clearly, your credit is not in that bad shape, but I wouldn%26#039;t sacrifice points just so I could get a day-planner or whatever the %26#039;rewards%26#039; are.

A credit score of 720 is good but many closed accounts do not look good on your credit report even when you are the one who closed them.

Also, many inquiries reduces your credit score also.

I would not continue this practice if I were you.

Get a few good cards and use them wisely if you are concerned with your credit score.|||It only knocks your score down a couple points for a few days so it shouldn%26#039;t hurt it.|||the more credit cards you open the worse it looks on your credit report. keep one or 2 but close the rest as if you don%26#039;t close them it also makes it worse on you.|||Yes, it can hurt your score plus if you keep opening and closing these accounts, you will end up with no score at all because there will be TOO much information trying to be processed that the scoring system will overload and will just kick out that you can%26#039;t be scored.

CHOOSING THE RIGHT CREDIT CARD OFFER FOR YOUR NEEDS

Selecting a credit card is not easy. Featured below are pros and cons of several of the major types of credit card offers. This information will assist you in selecting a card that is most specific for your needs.

Reward Credit Cards

Pros - These credit cards have many different types of perks associated with them when they are used for making purchases. Some of the most typical types of rewards offered are cash, airline miles, gas rebates, and/or points that can be used for discounts and savings at participating restaurants and stores. A reward credit card is one of the best choices you have if you anticipate paying your bill in full every month.

Cons - You should always read the terms and conditions of reward cards carefully before you commit to any offer. These card types typically have higher interest rates and costly annual fees. Carrying a balance every month is likely going to result in you paying more in interest fees than you are being rewarded.

Student Credit Cards

Pros - A student credit card is one of the best means for establishing credit. In fact, these types of credit cards are specifically designed to help those with no credit establish positive credit histories. There are even a variety of student credit cards for people with bad credit looking to rebuild their credit.

Cons - The interest rates associated with student credit cards tend to be higher than other card offers. Also, it is very typical for students to end up in debt as a result of not using a credit card wisely. We feature an entire section dedicated to helping educate people on smart credit card use.

Pre-Paid Credit Cards

Pros - These cards can be used in the same manner as regular credit cards. However, your are required to %26#039;load%26#039; money onto your card when you want to use them instead of taking advantage of the revolving credit lines normal credit cards offer. You are able to spend as much money as you have on your card. Achieving approval is very simple for prepaid credit cards, even for those with the worst credit histories or those with no credit.

Cons - Your payment history is likely not going to be reported to any of three major credit reporting agencies. Therefore, this type of credit card offers no real benefit for building or rebuilding credit. There are also many different times when you can not use a prepaid credit card for purchases, i.e. hotels, airline tickets and car rentals.

Secured Credit Cards

Pros - A secured credit card is probably the best credit card type for establishing or reestablishing credit. These credit cards offer the same type of functionality as regular credit cards.

Cons - You will need to leave a security deposit when looking to apply for a secured credit card. These deposits are usually between $150-300. The annual fees and interest rates associated with secured cards are higher than normal credit cards. In fact, interest rates can be as high as 30%! Typical annual fees range between $50-100.

I have a credit card question... i want one but dont know which one is better or which i would get screwed on?

Well if your getting a credit card to pay your rent off I%26#039;m not sure you can do that. I tought it had to be cash, check or money order. check into that! But on that credit card situation, all I can tell you is capital one screwed me and about 5 other people I know, so dont accept any offers from them. Also dont accept any credit card that has an anual fee, you can get one with no fee. Good luck with you credit card search.|||Mandy - AVOID THEM. PERIOD.

If you must have one, try to get one with NO annual fees at all - they do exist. Youre paying interest - why pay an annual fee. Furthermore, why choose one that will give you cash towards the purchase of a new car, when you already bought a new car??? 0% on balanece tranfers - USELESS for you - you have no credit card balances to transfer!

Why pay rent with credit, then use cash to pay off rent+ interest? It makes more sense to pay rent with cash. And, Ill tell you what will happen - you will pay rent with creidt the first couple of times...but then, you will find yourself paying rent with credit and wasting your cash on other items you want. Next thing you know, youve got no cash and no rent...and youve screwed yourself.

Id look into HSBC bank - they are from Europe and dont charge any fees. Also, look into opening an ING Direct account - 4.5% interest on savings - that like 4.25% more than banks are paying!!!|||Use the card to transfer your balance %26amp; get 0% financing.

Do not use it to pay rent - it is too easy to spend the rent $ elsewhere.

Then work out a monthly payment schedule so you can have the balance paid off by Feb. 2008. Always pay more than the minimum due. Credit card companies gamble that people will not pay the balance transferred off before the grace period ends.

Be sure to make payments on time (w/in grace period) because a late payment will trigger a penalty (fee, interest, etc.). If you bank online, set up monthly automatic payment.

Note: If you cannot pay the balance off by Feb. 2008 call your current credit company %26amp; tell them about GM%26#039;s offer to negotiate a better interest rate with them before you apply/accept the GM card.

Transferring balances can get consumers into trouble because they keep opening credit accounts and do not stop using the other charge cards.

As you pay off your transferred balance, make all purchases by cash or check to avoid running up another debt.

Also, check to see what the interest rate is for any additional purchases on the GM card. Sometimes, new charges have a steep interest rate.

My credit score jumped up 25 points in one month. What could have caused that?

I went bankrupt about 4 years ago, and ever since then i%26#039;ve power-applied until I had a few decent credit cards that surprisingly offered me credit at the time, and I obvoiusly took a huge ding for inquiries. However, ever since then my score has been everywhere from 549 to the lower 600. Today it stands at 674. It just moved up from 648 ish last month, that%26#039;s just transunion%26#039;s figure.

Obviously right after the bankrpucy my score was pitiful, but today as it stants around 674 ish, is this considered a more fair score?

And how long will it take for my score to jump into the 700s?

Also, what did I do RIGHT, to have my score move up so suddenly?

I do pay ALL my bills on time, and either in full or MORE than the minimum. Oh and one of my cards carries a balance on it thats pretty high about 70% of the total limit, but that doesn%26#039;t seem to be hurting my score at ALL, its almost like its getting higher if anything.

Oh I guess my cards histories are aging too.

Any ideas?

My credit score jumped up 25 points in one month. What could have caused that?credit counseling

You%26#039;ve established positive history and your bad debt is aging. Something probably hit an anniversary and went from 2 to 3 years or something that was showing past due aged off your report. The way to continue to improve your credit is to keep your carried balance below 20% on all your cards, continue to pay all your bills on time and pay more than the minimums. I know you said you%26#039;re carrying a balance of 70% on one card, and its %26quot;not hurting at all%26quot;, but its not helping either. I bet you anything if you dropped that balance to 50% or less your score would jump up by quite a bit again.

My credit score jumped up 25 points in one month. What could have caused that? loan

Only one idea and that is that if you continue to carry that one credit card at 70% it will drag your score back down a few points.

Juat keep doing what you are doing it seems to be working. Credit scores can change many points in either direction in a reporting cycle without rhyme or reason.

Yes.

But becareful b/c they could screw you again. Look at the APR and the fees.

I would apply for a Target credit card or something easy, then pay it off every paycheck - that will also make your credit better. Or get a Shell gas card and do the same thing.

Just make sure you make small purchases at first, til you get the %26quot;hang of it%26quot; and pay it off every month. Then try and get a bigger limit credit card and go from there.

Do anyone now what credit bureau GE Money Bank of Salt Lake City Utah use for extending credit for Credit Care. I want to get dental work done. My insurance cover some but not all. I know GE Money Bank of Salt Lake City Utah offer a credit card for health care. I ask my dentist they do not know nor would GE Money tell me. If anyone can help please let me know do they use Equifax, Experian or Trans Union. GE Money offer instant approval online or over the phone.

GE Money Bank of Salt Lake City,Utah, What Credit Bureau they use for extending credit for Credit Care?honda finance

They use Equifax. Most of the time, but not always, it%26#039;s an instant decision.

If your scores are bad, below 600, or if you have fairly recent baddies, you might go through the dental office when applying. Many times having the medical provider apply for you will get you approved.

If your scores are above 600 and if your baddies are old, if you have any, you might just apply online.

If you know how much the dentist is going to charge, for instance they claim it will cost $1000.00, you might ask for $2000 or so.

While they are fairly easy with approvals, they really stink at giving people increases.

If the dentist is going to be fairly high, you will probably be given a 0% promo for X number of months.

If you are given the promo, CareCredit may tell you your payments would be (for example) $10/month. If so, pay $30 or more a month. Be sure to have the promo paid off at least one month early.

Get a copy of your report first..know what is there then why worry about which one? They are supposed to disclose terms etc..with you before you apply but it doesn%26#039;t make sense why they wouldn%26#039;t be up front about which one they use. I am doing better now financially and in more personal aspects of my life such as relationships since bankruptcy. I still have some credit cards and have been doing well with them. I never make late payments, don%26#039;t charge too much on them, max them out etc. I get lots of credit offers in the mail, but I don%26#039;t respond to any of them. I filed for bankruptcy in 2005. I am eager to find ways to rebuild credit. I am open to all suggestions. Thnks loan

630 is not bad for only 2 years post bankruptcy...there is really not anymore you can do to improve your score...

You are right to be concerned as to how your credit will affect him...it will not affect him directly, it may however affect him indirectly.

If you were to let your credit slide again...if you have joint accounts his credit will be negativly affected. If you continue to have bad credit in the future, will you expect him to shoulder all of the credit responsibilities...will he have to put the cars and the house and all the cards in his name because you don%26#039;t qualify? This will drastically bring his score down...this is why it is important for you to use credit responsibly from now on.

I recomend not opening joint credit in forms of credit cards (not even authorized users, because in some cases authorized users can be held responsible for bad debts)...this way you have yours and he has his and you are both covered. The only debt you should share is a mortgage when you are ready. In a few years if you need a newer car your credit should be good enough to buy one without his name if you keep maintaining what you are doing.

Also, just because your student loans are not due, does not mean you shouldn%26#039;t be paying them...if you pay them down now, it is less to pay later...you say you are saving, you should be paying down debt 1st. Cut what you are saving in half and pay half on the debt and half into savings...this way when the debt comes due you will have less to pay and therefor you will owe less in interest.|||Aim for the following 3 major goals while repairing credit:

1. Make a commitment to pay the bills within the due date always. Also ensure you do not carry forward any balance on the credit cards each month.

2. Open a savings account and go on saving regularly. This acts as a protective shield if you face any financial crisis.

3. Plan and adhere to a manageable budget. You can get many such ideas and tips on proper budgeting on the Internet.|||Lots of people think that once they鈥檝e filed for bankruptcy they will be unable to ever get a loan again, and ultimately they are unable to do anything financial ever again. What are some tips for completing Hardship Application for credit cards?

What are some tips for completing Hardship Application for credit cards?mortgage lenders

The credit card companies will ALWAYS do what is in their best interest regardless of how good of a job you do in filling out the hardship application. Yet, for what it%26#039;s worth: If what you write down indicates to them that your financial problems are long-term, this could cause them to close the account and sell it to a collection agency, for example.....I guess the best thing would be to indicate that your problems are short-term in nature..(if that%26#039;s the case). Be careful that their accepting your %26quot;hardship%26quot; application doesn%26#039;t involve their boosting your interest rate up to the default rate of 30%+. If this happens, if you just make the minimum payment.....almost all of your payment will go just to the interest alone and the account balance will never go down.
